Matilda Est.
A name and a brand reinterpreting the Matilde di Canossa’s monogram (11th-12th centuries AD). Matilde ruled over the largest Italian imperial fiefdom, and her legacy to the territory where Matilda Est is based, features conspicuous landmarks, such as churches and abbeys.
A tribute to the first woman who played a leading role in the history of Europe, liaising during the epochal investiture controversy between the Papacy and the Empire.
The Idea.
VISION
To accomplish the synthesis of the three classical Vitruvian paradigms of sturdiness, function, elegance (firmitas, utilitas, venustas) through the language of lattice structures.
MISSION
To make furniture based on welded frames in aluminum alloy, characterized by the lattice design as a distinctive feature of a new brand.
Truss structures have developed in Europe since the 19th century, in the wake of the scientific and technological progress of the industrial revolution, which changed the construction processes and the architectural techniques. In this context, the design takes a pragmatic approach: the design depends on structural needs and the function shapes the form.
Who I am.
My name is Riccardo Canossa, I am a mechanical engineer who has extensive experience in machinery design. I filed several patents and was awarded with an international prize for innovation at an industrial exhibition in Paris.
In my work, I have often developed the theme of lattice structures, which I have always been fascinated by: the trellis epitomizes a principle of truth, it unveils itself embodying the elegance of force lines in the space.
The production.
Matilda Est manages internally both the design and the production process.
This ensures versatility that can quickly translates into product customization and development of customer-tailored configurations.
Each piece is serialized and dated.
